Gifts for Wellness Buffs that Rock
I like the challenge of shopping to find that one gift someone special to you will use over and over. My favorite Christmas gift growing up was a letter jacket for my high school, a genuine leather jacket. My parents worked hard to get it, not cheap and when I opened it, it had the patches already sewn on it including my varsity letter.
The best gifts read the person really well. They communicate that you appreciate them and took time to think about what they would like.
If you have people on your list that invest in their health, then I have 5 gifts they will love. Click on the images to purchase the gift.
Full Disclosure: In this post, I have links to the gifts I describe available in Amazon Store. They are affiliate links so I do receive a small portion of any sales. Also, all these items I have in my own kitchen and regularly use. I only endorse what I believe in.
1. Natural Food Saver Sheets
These are sheets that look like dryer sheets made up of organic spices that help deter decay of produce. You tuck a sheet in your produce drawer, half a sheet in a bowl of fruit on the counter, and I do another sheet in the fridge near my lettuce.
They work the best with strawberries (other berries), spinach and especially with spring mix lettuce that has red lettuce in it. This is a huge saver on going through my lettuce at the end of the week and picking out slimy red turned black leaves.
Other produce it may not make as big a difference. The sheets help these key produce I mentioned last twice as long. For me, that is big. I hate throwing away strawberries and slimy lettuce. One sheet lasts 2 to 3 weeks.
To keep track, I write on my dry erase board (posted on my frig) the date I put the FreshPaper in my produce plus two weeks. That way I know when to change the paper out.
Caution: an active ingredient in the FreshPaper is fenugreek. This is why it smells like maple syrup. This is used in maple syrup flavoring. But it is also a legume that is like a peanut and can have similar allergens as peanuts. So if you have a peanut allergy use with caution or avoid.
Fun Gift Addon: A nice addition to the FreshPaper is a fresh basket of produce or a gift card to go shopping for some.
2. Grape and Cherry Tomato Slicers
A salad is not complete without tomatoes. Slicing small tomatoes in half for dishes and salads can be a pain. It is easy to skip and just go without. Not true if you have either or both of these kitchen gadgets.
The Good Grips by Oxo to the right works well on grape tomatoes – their size is smaller and more oval shaped than cherry tomatoes. The Zip Slicer on the left by Progressive works wonders on cherry tomatoes. And yes, I have both. Get one or both for the tomato lover on your list.
Fun Gift Addon: Give one or both of the tomato slicers with a carton of tomatoes to go with it.
3. Amazing Spanish Olive Oil
This is an organic extra virgin olive oil (OEVOO) using a hand-picked Pical variety of olives. This means it is very high in the polyphenol antioxidants and has a harvest date of Nov 2015. It received a Gold Award at the 2016 NY International Olive Oil Competition. The taste is fruity and buttery ending with a peppery note. Acidity: 0.12%. Polyphenol antioxidants: 439 mg/Kg.
I just finished my second bottle. I add it in to anything that I will serve cold or at room temperature with olive oil. It is called DeHesa De La Sabina.
Fun Gift Addon: Tie a handwritten recipe card for pesto or bruschetta around the neck of the bottle. Two wonderful ways to use high quality olive oil.
4. Herb Saver
This is an easy way to extend the life of herbs like basil, rosemary, and thyme and even asparagus. The see-through container fits perfectly in the door of your frig. You can use a dry erase pen to write the date on the outside. It keeps herbs for up to 3 weeks.
All you do is pour water in the bottom to the fill line and place the stems of the herbs touching in the water. Screw on the top and set in your frig. I put my herbs in the container as soon as I get home from the store.
Fun Gift Addon: Find out the favorite herb for whomever is getting the saver and grab some just before giving the gift. They will have 3 weeks to use up the herb once they store it in the herb saver.
5. Kale and Greens Stripper
This handy little tool separates leaves from the stem of herbs and kale in just seconds. All you do it pull the stem through. I love using it for thyme, rosemary, oregano and tarragon. These herbs all have fairly small leaves and tough, woody stems.
This tool makes it so easy and quick. Kids can use it too. You can use it for kale too. If you have never destemmed kale, give this nifty tool a try.
Fun Gift Addon: Find out if the person receiving the gift loves thyme, oregano or rosemary. Grab some on your way to give the gift.
Gift giving is a lot of fun when you have found the perfect gift. People in your life that are into wellness will love any of these great gifts.
Also, don’t be shy about putting any of these gifts on your wish list too.
